Investing.com -- Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) is moving to dismiss at least 100 employees from Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL)'s fast-growing cloud division, CNBC reported on Tuesday.

Citing internal correspondence and people familiar with the matter, the business news channel said that the tech giant informed employees last week about the layoffs. Roles being impacted include consulting, sales, operations, engineering, and "go to market" strategy, CNBC added.

A spokesperson for Google told CNBC the cuts will be incremental across teams in order to help the business evolve to meet "significant opportunities ahead."

The decision comes after Google announced at least 200 layoffs from its "Core" unit in April. The segment oversees the technical foundation behind Google's flagship products, according to a blog on the company's website.

It also laid off hundreds of workers in January as part of a string of job reductions across the tech industry that stemmed in part from lingering economic uncertainties.
